Zarina, the village girl near Kargil in Ladakh

The image of Zarina, a 14-year old village girl near Kargil, was taken on July 23, 2008 on my way to Padum in the Zanskar Valley in Ladakh located in the Indian Himalayan state of Jammu and Kashmir. She is seen here looking through my car window a few moments before I drove off. Click on the image for a larger view.

The Mosque and the Buddhist Flag in Zanskar

The image was taken on July 24, 2008 in the town of Padum in the Zanskar Valley in Ladakh located in the Indian Himalayan state of Jammu and Kashmir. A town comprising both Buddhists and Muslims, the former in greater numbers, this shot shows a mosque with a Buddhist prayer flag fluttering nearby. This is also roughly the dividing line between the predominantly Muslim and Buddhist areas of the town. Click on the image for a larger view.
